Our new Functional Medicine Advisor...
Happy New Year! The Healthful Elements team is recently back from a nearly three week break and we feel refreshed and SO ready for 2016.
We have several big announcements to make in the coming weeks, but we want to start the year by celebrating our relationship with Dr. Carrie Getzmier – our new and “official” Functional Medicine Advisor. She plays a “behind the scenes” role at Healthful Elements as our sounding board, consultant, and…advisor.
I’ve had a longstanding relationship with Dr. Carrie – she’s my go-to resource for detoxification and optimizing digestive health and immunity, both for myself and our clients. I’ve dubbed her “the wizard.”
What does this relationship mean for you?
1. We’re smart, but she makes us even smarter. And as we craft materials for our upcoming group classes (announcements soon!), she’s available to consult with us, helping us fine-tune and make the materials the best they can possibly be.
2. If you’re a Healthful Elements client, as your coach, and with your permission, we can consult with Dr. Carrie on your situation at no additional cost you. Sometimes you need another set of eyes on things and our relationship with Dr. Carrie allows us to get a functional medicine perspective on your specific situation and unique challenges.
No matter where you are, you can also consult with Dr. Carrie directly, which can greatly complement your Healthful Elements program – or any other health program you’re engaged in. We’ve performed “coordinated care” (client + us + Dr. Carrie) with several of our clients with fantastic results.
[We do NOT benefit financially from any kind of referral relationship with Dr. Carrie.]
Dr. Carrie says, “Firstly, I’m thrilled to act as Functional Medicine Advisor to the Healthful Elements team and to support the transformative work they’re doing with their clients.
“As a Doctor of Chiropractic, I know that a state of health and the absence of disease is a result of a balanced body and nervous system.
“After my father was mis-medicated (and almost died) in the hospital, my Functional Medicine practice moved to a whole new level. I saw firsthand how adding drug after drug to treat symptoms of the previous drug created a vicious downward spiral. I saw how the right combinations of nutrients healed the body. I saw how our ‘health care’ system is broken and that there’s a different way.
“I’m passionate about helping others discover the root cause of their symptoms and imbalances instead of merely covering them up. In my functional medicine practice, I work with people suffering from adrenal dysfunction, liver and/or kidney dysfunction, autoimmunity, hormonal imbalances, digestive imbalances, chronic inflammation, MTHFR, and Lyme disease, including any combination of the above, to create comprehensive, individualized nutrient plans to help heal the underlying biochemical imbalances and deficiencies.”
Did I mention that I’ve nicknamed her “the wizard?”
If you’re near the Twin Cities:
Again, anyone, no matter where you are, can consult with Dr. Carrie via phone.
But if you’re near the Twin Cities, there’s something you should know about – Dr. Carrie’s Functional Physical.
Grounded in Functional Medicine, this comprehensive physical is a complete in-office urine and saliva testing procedure that evaluates 40 different markers of how your body is functioning – all important bio-markers in determining health and analyzing risk for disease. These markers include:
- Adrenal stress
- Liver function
- Inflammation
- Toxicity
- Acid/Alkaline balance (pH)
- Blood sugar regulation
- Triglycerides
- Cholesterol
- Body fat/muscle mass ratio
- Cellular health
Dr. Carrie states, “Rather than looking at each system independently and going to several different ‘-oligists,’ Functional Medicine reveals how each system of the body can impact the whole and why a missing link in communication or support in one system impacts the whole body.”
I can’t recommend this test highly enough. It’s fascinating – I’ve done it, as have many of my clients.
Again, we don’t get any kick-back for telling you about this. There’s no “Tell ‘em Jill sent you.” If you’re local to the Twin Cities, we simply want you to consider this alternative to a “regular” physical.
Here’s to a happy and healthful 2016!
